Some, like Monarch, are known to migrate, but some adults enter a state of "diapause", like hibernation, and come out of shelter on a warm day in March, and sometimes February, along most wooded paths and hiking trails near the river. The Missouri River Basin Lewis & Clark Visitor Center is hosting its annual Native American Artifact Show on Saturday, March 8, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The show will feature authentic Native American artifacts from a number of private and public collections. Visitors will be able to see some of the finest examples of spear points, arrowheads, tools, and pottery in the Midwest. SPECIAL EVENING EVENT Fireside Chat with 1804 Lewis & Clark Soldiers and Mountain MenLive reenactors at our Fort Wood complex.Gather around a fire where you can roast marshmallows and make s'mores. Hot chocolate and coffee will also be available.The main log cabin will be open with fires in the fireplaces, candles burning in the lanterns, and the spirits of Lewis & Clark in the shadows. A shuttle service will be available from the parking lot up to the fort for those not able to hike up the hill.
